Acquisition

A business transaction in which one company purchases a controlling interest in another company, often by buying most or all of its shares or assets, to gain control and leverage the target company’s competitive strengths.

For example, Amazon acquired Whole Foods in 2017 for $13.7 billion to expand into the grocery market.
